ML Hoop Updates
The 7th grade girls and boys tipped off last night at Home against Hazen. The girls were able to pull off the victory 15-9. They have come very far this year in what they have learned and how they apply it in games. Hats off to the girls and the coaches...The boys were not able to come away with the victory. They went down 15-3 at halftime, but made some adjustments and came out and played an inspired second half. They cut the lead to three (16-19), but were never able to get any closer and lost 22-30. The boys tip-off against Fairfax tonight at home (4:45 for 7th/6:00 for 8th), and the girls travel to Fairfax for 4:45 and 6:00 games as well...
The Hazen 8th Grade Tournament tipped off Saturday with the boys and girls taking on Hazen in the first round. The boys got off to a great start and trailed by only 1 at half, but in the second half went down 9 and were never able to regain the lead. They will play in the consolation game this Saturday at 11:15 am.
The girls lost their first game of the season Saturday in the first round. They lost by 4 and will play in the consolation game this Saturday at 10am.

Hoops update
The boys and girls 8th grade teams tip off tomorrow at the Hazen 8th grade tournament at 12:45 for the girls and 2:00 for the boys. Both teams will play Hazen in the first round. The boys put together a good game at Lamoille Wednesday, but were unable to come away with a victory. They are playing well and Saturday's contest with Hazen should be a good one. The 8th grade girls have been dominating their competition and could very well win the tournament. They are 8-0 this season with their last win coming over a good Lamoille team on Wednesday. Both teams will play next Saturday in either the consolation or championship games. The times will be announced on Monday. Check back Monday for scores, highlights, and updates.

LINKS
Yes, golf season is right around the corner, but I want to talk about a differnt kind of LINK...to your right there are a few links that will take you to permission slips, schedules, and more. One link in particular that I think many will find interesting and insightful is the "High School Today" link. High School Today is the publication of the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).
The NFHS "has led the development of education-based interscholastic sports and activities that help students succeed in their lives. We set directions for the future by building awareness and support, improving the participation experience, establishing consistent standards and rules for competition, and helping those who oversee high school sports and activities. The NFHS publishes playing rules in 16 sports for boys and girls competition and administers fine arts programs in speech, theater, debate and music. It provides a variety of program initiatives that reach the 18,500 high schools and over 11 million students involved in athletic and activity programs" (source: NFHS.org).
The website and magazine are resources for anyone interested in coaching, current coaches, student-athletes, parents of student-athletes, and administrators. The state of Vermont requires that all varsity coaches take at least two of the classes they offer before they finish their first year of coaching in the state (Fundamentals of Coaching and Sports First Aid).
The link I have posted will take you to the High School Today page, where you will be able to view, in PDF format, the current issues of High School Today. There you will find articles about the current state of Co-curricular activities around the country. January's issue has a great article on fan sportsmanship, and what one school did to change the climate at their games.
Check back frequently to see if I have added any other links. Enjoy
